The Real Deal, an 'up close & personal' glimpse into a slice of early aviation history. The story of Starnes and his experiences as a barnstorming parachute jumper in flying circuses in the 1920s. Mr. Starnes started parachuting at age 19 after practicing acrobatics from high-rise buildings. Handy training. His barnstorming parachute feats required balance and strength his competition died for. His parachute had a trapeze bar, no harness. His powerful grip enabled manic stunts such as his killer "Swing of Death." Accomplished free faller too. For example, Oct 1941, MOVIETONE NEWS. "Arthur Starnes making delayed parachute jump from six miles up -- he takes off in Lodestar in Army experiment and is greeted by wife and son...." This jump was shown in newsreels and broadcast live on radio. He quit at age 26 when the new airships "have not been built for wing walking...eliminating the numerous struts and riggings needed for wing walking." and, Government control, "one is not permitted to me much of an aerial maniac." .... Because of "the wreckless boys who compelled the government to take a hand in the game of suicides." Cool dude. ( ) ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
