Today's digital photography would be an asset but there's still nothing to replace the bits of wisdom such as the transplant size of trailing arbutus or how to take certain cuttings. ( ) There will never be anyone close to George D. Aiken. He maintained a sense of patience, balance and common sense seldom found. His former plant nursery in Putney, Vermont, and the soils, streambeds and bogs of Vermont became his outdoor laboratories. When he traveled to Washington as a US Senator from Vermont, these strengths stood with him. Of Vietnam he recommended that our country declare that we had won the war and then leave. The book I have was one he inscribed to "Mr and Mrs John Keeler with the regards of the author George D Aiken".Pasted in the book is a cut out magazine article by Greer Williams entitled "You can grow wildflowers" There is also a color picture in the front cover, also pasted in. It shows Aiken at the National Botanic Gardens holding a flask of orchid seedlings. This book was apparently included at some point in the library of R.E. Alexander as it is stamped twice in the front covers. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
"Pioneering with Wildflower was first published in 1935 by the young George Aiken, who first gained national attention as a horticulturist before his distinguished political career as U.S. Senator. The book has enjoyed great esteem among gardeners ever since. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |
