Behind the scenes of our spinning earth are keepers of the elements who make sure that tornadoes don't destroy cities, fires don't ravage forests, earthquakes don't decimate towns, and floods don't take out humanity. They wrestle with the natural elements to ensure that the world keeps spinning smoothly on its axis. Since the beginning of time, the Sun has been fading, and the light that shines on the earth is dimming, causing the elements to be more volatile and impossible for the keepers to control. Now they must enlist the help of one man, Finn, to help them bring the light back to the Sun. The keepers war, the North Star steals light from the Sun, and the Moon is in disrepute. The end of existence is coming, and all the while the king, the Moon, Lir, remains silent.… (mere)

When I first started reading this book I expected a story of an orphan growing up and facing life. I was happily surprised when it turned out to be much more. The Silence of Lir is a wonderfully engaging book that has a wonderfully built story and atmosphere.
The story is of the Delegation's Struggle against the Unrest as they both try to maintain harmony. The ending did a wonderful job setting itself up for the next book.

The Silence of Lir by Mary Twomey is a the thoroughly enjoyable and imaginative story of Finn, a man immortal who does not know any of his past. Then, one day, his past, and his answers, returns and punches him in the face.

I really enjoyed how Mary Twomey described the uses of magic, handled her character's interactions and emotions with such compassion and depth, and how she weaves this unique story.

The Silence of Lir is a huge influence on my own writing and I would recommend the book to boys and girls 13 & up.

To my Creator, who spoke into existence a better world than I could ever imagine. The world of the Spheres is definately not as cool as yours. Thanks for letting me play with both.
To my husband, Matt, for telling me he liked my smile, and then pursuing it day after day. To my children, Kroi and Maven. This book was written while I was pregnant with my Kroi. I hope that one day you find your passion, that you follow it whole-heartedly, and then give it to the Lord.
