When I first started reading this book I expected a story of an orphan growing up and facing life. I was happily surprised when it turned out to be much more. The Silence of Lir is a wonderfully engaging book that has a wonderfully built story and atmosphere. The story is of the Delegation's Struggle against the Unrest as they both try to maintain harmony. The ending did a wonderful job setting itself up for the next book.
The Silence of Lir by Mary Twomey is a the thoroughly enjoyable and imaginative story of Finn, a man immortal who does not know any of his past. Then, one day, his past, and his answers, returns and punches him in the face.
I really enjoyed how Mary Twomey described the uses of magic, handled her character's interactions and emotions with such compassion and depth, and how she weaves this unique story.
The Silence of Lir is a huge influence on my own writing and I would recommend the book to boys and girls 13 & up.
