Robert Rose was a talented cricketer who represented Victoria and played football for Collingwood and later Footscray. He was the son of legendary Collingwood player and coach Bob Rose. In 1974 he became a quadriplegic after being in a car accident. This book is a memoir by his brother Peter Rose an acclaimed poet, literary critic and editor. It is a superbly written portrait of a brother and family who were united in grief, love and devotion. Winner of the National Biography Award in 2003. Published again in 2013 by the Text Publishing Company.

read this in Jakarta , with no background as to AFL

a heart wrenching read

would commend it to everyone with a pulse

I am privileged to have read it

the true story of a spectacular sportsman , cut down in his prime by physical infirmity , and his, his family's and friends' struggle with the aftermath

well worth reading as the writing was by a brother who was not gifted in the sporting sense ( so a great contrast ) but one of Australia's great writers ( in my humble opinion) ( )
