This was dark and there aren't really any good guys in it so no one to root for. Still kind of interesting but, waiting to see if the newest character introduced will be likeable. ( )

Red Lanterns Vol. 1: Blood and Rage by Peter Milligan (illustrated by Ed Benes) is a graphic novel, part of The New 52 storyline by DC Comics. This graphic novel collects issues #1-6 of Red Lanterns.

Atrocitus is the founder of the Red Lantern Corps, beings who get their power from hatred and anger. This volume focuses on how Atrocitus created the corps fighting various enemies, the mission of the Red Lanterns, backstories, and civil war.

I had no idea what to expect when I started to read Red Lanterns Vol. 1: Blood and Rage by Peter Milligan (illustrated by Ed Benes). I always liked Green Lantern as a supporting character, but never actually followed any of the story lines, unless they directly related to another I was following.

Right off the bat I was pleasantly surprised despite my initial reservation. The story and writing pulled me in immediately. The characters, old and new, were explained and given personality and depth.

The art ranged from very good to pretty good, even though I could tell some of it was done by different artists, I really didn’t notice any huge differences between the ways characters were drawn.

This graphic novel is violent, as the story is about aliens who get their powers by channeling rage and anger. There were several new (to me?) standout characters, the main one being the super-villain Bleez.

Overall I thought this was a great read. The cast of characters really made this book shine and I’m looking forward for the rest of the series. ( )

Human RL was bleh, Bleez bum bombardment, cat torture and retribution. Still liked it though. ( )

This would have been a 3.5 (which i tend to round up to 4 stars), except that there are bits of dialogue that get repeated in that they are restated verbatim over and over an multiple time. (This is an allusion to Mojo Jojo and not to the book.) ( )
