The author has a chicken narrating this book. It teaches the children all sorts of animal noises. The book is colorful and filled with silly illustrations of animals. The book is very short and it keeps the children's attention.

Not one of our favorite Boynton books. ( )

As much as I love Sandra Boynton, her recent books are not of as high a quality as what I have come to expect. For instance, in this one, the illustrations still feature her cute and funny animal characters, but each picture is just a close-up of the animal with a colored background. One animal per page, no detailed settings, and no interactions between the animals. The story is very basic. The narration is cute, and still has a style to the voice, but it in't much of a read aloud, nor does it have a plot or teach a lesson or have a rhythmic song. Her older works are much more complex and have a toe-tapping rhythm, and this board book is sorely lacking in both aspects. I am disappointed with it. The book falls flat, especially in comparison with her other work. ( )
