I liked this book for many reasons. The first reason I really enjoyed this book was for its usage of unique vocabulary words. The author includes a glossary in the back for all the “fancy” words used, but what I like most about this book was that the author knew certain words would be unfamiliar to the reader and so she had the main character, Nancy, clarify their meanings. An example of this vocabulary usage and clarification would be, “We all sit and ponder. That means we think hard.” The author uses these new, unfamiliar words and gives a clear definition using words younger readers would understand, “we think hard.” That is enabling the reader to enhance their vocabulary skills by learning new words. The second reason I enjoyed this book was bright and fun illustrations. Every character had cute little faces and there was a clear form of diversity among the students. Some students were white, others were African American, and some were Asian which represents what the classrooms of today should look like. The main theme of the book was working together with peers to come up with a solution to make a boring, rainy day fun and exciting. This can be used in a classroom to enhance vocabulary and to give students the idea that having fun at school, while still learning, is certainly okay. ( )

These books are much mkore intended for girls but i know some young boys enjoy them too. What is really great about the books is that they have "Fancy words" and these are more extravagant words for kids to learn, and are deffined in the story and back of the book. I think this is really good so kids learn what they actually mean but also so they can feel proud for knowing big words. This book is about when Nancy convences the class to have a Fancy day and everyone gets all dressed up for the occasion.

This is a nice party story for girls entering early-reading, or as a bedtime story, in the standard 32 page format. No deep important themes here, just delighful play and imagination. Nice color illustrations take up most of each page. ( )
