"Colorado Fireman" from C.C. Coburn offers another visit with the amazing clan featured in the "The O'Malley Men Series". What you get is even more than what you see with these fabulous folks! The O'Malley men are rowdy and rambunctious, both reticents and romanticists, and they are real, with rough edges just waiting for the right woman to smooth them out. Of course, their imperfections are part of their charm, so their special ladies learn not to smooth too much! In "Colorado Fireman", Adam O'Malley has moved back to his home town of Spruce Lake, CO, and plans to continue his career as a firefighter. Adam left home as soon as he graduated from high school, on the run from a painful personal secret that caused him to distance himself from everyone and everything that he loved. After more than a decade, and much coaxing from his mother, Adam comes home to face his family and friends. Soon after he arrives, his firefighting skills are tested when he must rescue the occupants of a burning apartment building. He saves lives, including some children and a dog belonging to the children's neighbor. The mother of the children, Carly Spencer, is young and lovely, and Adam is immediately captivated. His plans to stay detached and uninvolved are changed when his mother invites Carly and her children to stay with the O'Malleys at their ranch. Carly is the widow of a firefighter, with four young children, and facing an uncertain future. She is a massage therapist with healing hands and a gentle, intuitive nature. Adam is rude, blunt and gruff, but also shows glimpses of his tender and caring heart. With Carly's warm concern and skilled touch, Adam begins to thaw from the inside out, and he starts to think about having a normal life. He knows he has to conquer the secret he has carried for fifteen years before he can begin his life anew. Carly has had her share of tragedies, and she was not expecting to find love again, especially with someone in the dangerous profession of firefighting. Carly starts to dream of a happy future for herself and the children, unaware that an unknown threat from her past is closing in, waiting for the opportunity to claim Carly once and for all. C.C. Coburn is a highly entertaining and involving storyteller. This book opens with the compelling scene of Adam in the middle of the apartment building fire, and the intensity continues throughout the story line. There is one more book to come in this series--each O'Malley son has had his own book--and it is sure to be a terrific finale!
