Revise Us Again calls us to revisit and return to God's original script for living. Every person follows a script for living, a life-guide that offers cues for our behavior and direction for our choices. As believers, the Word of God gives us a script for experiencing life as God intended. Yet our scripts are often distorted by our environment, our culture, and our religious traditions. As a result, all of us are in constant need of revising the scripts that we live by. Author Frank Viola believes we need to revisit and revise what it means to live the Christian life. Drawing from his rich background in ministry, Viola shares how believers can benefit from re-scripting their lives in ten key areas. Written in a conversational tone and filled with practical insights, Revise Us Again is ideal for any reader who longs to follow God's original script for living.… (mere)

Like several books I’ve read today about Christianity, this felt like a book of theses for other books. That being said, these were theses for several books I’ve never read before, which was a nice change. I particularly loved the chapter “The God of Unseen Endings,” which talked about how God takes away the first to establish the second. Old covenant, new covenant. Adam, Jesus. Old temple, Jesus as the new temple. God creates light out of darkness. I thought all of these concepts would be so helpful to someone struggling through the “first” or the “dark night,” as Viola calls it. I also loved the “Your Christ is Too Small” chapter. I see this in a lot of people, and often find myself thinking about Jesus in too-small a way. Viola puts it this way:

“You cannot cling to the Christ you know today. He will vanish from your midst. Jesus Christ is an elusive Lover. Seeking Him is a progressive engagement that never ends. He doesn’t dance to our music. He doesn’t sing to our tune.”

NCLA Review -Author Frank Viola challenges the reader to be the change needed in the church. Viola says that the question most Christians ask, “What would Jesus do?’ is the wrong question. He suggests that instead they should ask, “What is Jesus doing through me and through us?” He uses examples from his life experiences as he explains how Christians need to be revised to answer this question. The book is written in ten easy-to-read chapters, but each chapter has meaningful insights into the Christian life. In the Afterword, Viola gives a sort of blueprint using the writing of Paul. At the end are notes on each chapter with resources for finding additional information. Whether you agree or not with the author, this book will give you some questions to answer that pertain to your Christian life. Rating: 4 —AMB ( )

Revise Us Again: Living From a Renewed Christian Spirit calls upon Christians to examine and rescript the habits, practices, and language of their lives. Whether you have been a Christian one day or one hundred years, you have spiritual ethos that is shaped by the Bible, church teachings, society, environment and traditions. However, authentic Christianity requires that each person must examine his or her own spiritual worldview and then turn to the Bible for the authentic, original script of life.

Each chapter in Revise Us Again by Frank Viola is relatively short and easy to read. I was pleased with this aspect since I used the book as a companion to my daily Bible reading. Chapter three was my personal favorite of the entire book. It discussed how Christians sometimes use prayer as an excuse to decline a request. Viola emphasizes the need for honesty and authenticity. I felt like many of Viola's points were good, but not all were completely backed up with Scripture. In those parts, more Scripture would have perhaps been more convincing. I also felt like there were a few teachings that did not line up with Scripture. That being said, I do not feel like this is a bad book. I simply emphasize that Revise Us Again, like any book with spiritual teachings, should be compared with the Bible's teachings to see if the teachings line up.

I recommend this book only to those who are brave enough to read with an open mind, examine personal beliefs, and compare the book's teachings with the Bible.

Good content and challenging, this book will help anyone with a heart to follow Jesus. Frank Viola points out some of the bad habits we may not know we have, and does it it in a way that helped me say, 'Oh yes, I've done that'. ( )
