Robinson (read 7 Mar 1989) I found this 1966 book by a University of North Dakota history professor a sheer delight to read. It is not written in a particularly sprightly style and yet I found it a work fascinating in the extreme. It starts at the very beginning, and I only wish it had included the last twenty years--I wonder what has happened since. The chapter on the Non-Partisan League days--1914 to 1923--was most interesting. It was basically a socialist venture, and I suspect my father would have been right at home in North Dakota in those days. Bill Langer had a fascinating career, and my having often observed him in the Senate made all I read very immediate. The large number of German-Russians in North Dakota injects into North Dakota life an element certainly missing in Iowa. The dominance of wheat also makes the State unique. A most enjoyable book.
