Fantastic art is a given with David Wiesner. So is the trippy ordinary-becomes-extraordinary thing. The only thing that holds me back from really loving Wiesner's books is that they can seem a little too serious, like they're art objects more than lovable stories. What I like about this particular David Wiesner book is the quirky sense of humor. Wiesner having fun! Yay! ( )

An interesting take on how art looks different for every person. ( )

I love this! Not just for the exploration of friendship and what makes art, but for all the little details in the illustrations. I'm especially fond of the Pink Floyd album and, AZ native that I am, the brick stamped Coconino. ( )

It tells the illustrated story of Art, an experienced artist, and max, an enthusiastic beginner in learning to paint. Art tells him that he can start by illustrating him, although Max understands it differently and paints him, Art doesn't like that and asks him to unpaint him, but Max completely erased him. This book leaves a nice lesson for young readers not to be afraid to try new things, there will always be someone more experienced than you, but with a good attitude you can achieve amazing things.
