Is there any new titles coming out that you have heard of and are excited about? I am just wondering, I have been having a strong desire to throw money at Amazon for some reason and would like to pick up something new that is eagerly anticipated. Heck, even something you have read recently that you would highly suggest.

I have a pile queued up to order when they're published:
The Grand Design: Strategy and the U.S. Civil War by Donald Stoker,
Battles of New Hope Church, by Russell W. Blount;
The Chickamauga Campaign (Civil War Campaigns in the Heartland) by Steven E. Woodworth (Editor);
Civil War In The East 1861-1865: A Strategic Assessment by Brooks D. Simpson
and I recently read,
Fields of Blood: The Prairie Grove Campaign by the ever excellent William SHea.

Ammianus, where do you find any pre-published lists? I run across some titles every now and again, but have yet to find any source of substance.

On July 27th, 2010, a book entitled "Financial Fraud and Guerrilla Violence in Missouri's Civil War, 1861-1865" by Mark Geiger is coming out from Yale Univ. Press. It is a re-worked doctoral dissertation and is a new explanation of why the guerrilla violence in western Missouri was so wide-spread, and so intense--the worst guerrilla warfare we have ever had in American history. It is not military history. But it provides a new explanation of why so many young men of the region went into bushwhacking after the Federals chased out the Confederates (or Missouri State Guard) in late 1861.

#3: I discover most prepub notes on Amazon; they're sure I'll need to buy this or that book. There are several series that I look for on their publishers site (I check U of CHicago press for a mystery series I like that's being reprinter), etc. Also, people on various forums I belong to, like LT, give me a heads up from time to time as well..

There used to be a print magazine called _Civil War Book Review_. It survives as a Web site. I also like reading _Publishers Weekly_ magazine reviews, but of course you get the whole gamut there, not just military history.
