- The EWH Library is located on the ground floor of Acheson House, 5 Bakehouse Close in the Canongate area of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh . Acheson House is a category A listed building dating back to 1633, and was built for Sir Archibald Acheson who was King Charles 1's Secretary of State for Scotland. The Library has a collection of over 2000 books and publications on architecture and architects, conservation and planning, world heritage sites, architectural history, and the history of Edinburgh. There are maps of the city; slides depicting the Heritage Site; and many informative leaflets highlighting the work and services provided by EWH. The library is open during office hours and can be visited by appointment.
Edinburgh World Heritage is a charity funded by the City of Edinburgh Council and Historic Scotland, with the role of protecting, conserving and promoting the World Heritage Site.
Edinburgh World Heritage was created in 1999 by a merger of the Old Town Renewal Trust and the New Town Conservation Committee. The organisation is a charitable company limited by guarantee. Registered in Scotland No.SC195077. Scottish charity No. 037183. - Sted
