What's there is good but the book is incomplete. The first sections of the book consists of autobiographical material written by Stafford and Weston describing their early days in the music business. Stafford's sections describing touring with the Tommy Dorsey band was excellent and gives a great picture of what it was like to travel on a bus night after night to date after date. The next section consisted of letters from Stafford to Weston and from Weston to Stafford. This was good too although as I was reading I wished there were footnotes to let you know who some of the folks were they were talking about. The final section consists of several articles written by Weston as a Capitol Records executive describing what makes a number one record, what is bop, etc. Then there was a section called Editor's Notes that described the various sections and including the footnotes to the letters section that I had been wanting. However, in going back to look, the footnote numbers were so small (to my eyes) that I never saw them. If this Editor's Notes had been in the beginning of the book it would have made reading a lot more meaningful to me. However, the book just ends so you never get the rest of the story - when did Stafford and Weston decide to marry, what happened then, kids, etc. So it is half a book, what is there is good, but I'd like to know the rest of the story.… (mere)
