2317 The Church in the Industrial Age, by Roger Aubert, Gunter Bandmann, Kakob Baumgartner, Mario Bendiscioli, Jacques Gadille, Oskar Kohler, Rudolf Lill, Bernhard Stascewski, Erika Weinzierl translated by Margit Resch (read 11 Aug 1990) This is volume IX of the History of the Catholic Church, edited by Hubert Jedin. I figured, even though I have not read the other volumes, this covered an extremely interesting time in Church History--the pontificates of Leo XIII and Pius X. I found it very interesting--it is written by foreigners (mostly German, I think) and so it has insights and viewpoints somewhat strange to me. In general, it is not as pro-Church as I'd like, but it wasn't too bad. I now feel like I'd like to read other volumes in the series. Actually, it is so survey-ey that I kept wanting more detail. I may read other volumes in the series [but so far I have not!]… (mere)
