I enjoyed the humor and the "back story" proposed by this novel. I really laughed over the final few chapters. There's a moral .. but it would ruin the tale to tell it. Also I do suspect we have some Section 31 in this book as well, even if it is not named as such.

It was Star Trek: Generations before Star Trek VII came out. I'm really not sure which story was better.

A great epic that literally spans time and space with Captains Kirk and Picard in fine form and an enemy that is appropriately evil on a grand scale. Furthermore the authors manage to capture the essence of these well-loved characters which makes the story all the more compelling. The only drawbacks for me were the very long passages of introspection and philosophizing......a little bit goes a long way and with a wee bit of editing those personal asides would have carried more impact than they do. But I enjoyed the adventure and the bittersweet ending(s) made me glad I came along for the ride.… (mere)

This book is so good! Honestly. I originally read it on digital, and liked it so much that I sought it out in hardback to add to my collection. The thing I find so satisfying is that it takes the Prime Directive seriously in a way that the series doesn't really. You have a real sense of the damage that could be done to a culture if Starfleet mucks it up—and also the problems with the whole concept of the Prime Directive. Also, includes a running joke about BLACK FIRE, another earlier Trek novel! Great, great Trek book.… (mere)
