"Mary Plain is, as she describes herself, "an unusual bear from the bear-pits at Berne". Now staying with friends at Blueberry Manor, Mary helps and hinders as usual - and becomes a Vip by lending a paw with floods. First published 1961. Still funny, reminds me of Paddington, but this series was written a generation earlier.

Further adventures of Mary Plain, a small bear cub from the Bear Pits at the Berne Zoo, who visits her friends in England. Similar to the adventures of Paddington, but written in the 1930s. Humourous situations, and delightful drawings.
Mary is staying with the Owl Man, getting ready for Christmas, taking ballet lessons, going to the dentist, attending a party, and a wedding.

Mary Plain in Town af Gwynedd Rae

First published in 1935. This book begins at the bear pits in Berne, where Mary has returned after her 5 day visit to England. Several chapters in, she decides to go to England to visit her friend the Owl Man, and has even more surprising adventures. Those familiar with Paddington will discover a similar theme, a curious young bear immersed in English life, but these stories are older. Rather dated, but still funny, and the drawings are charming.

The bear cub twins, Marionetta and Little Wool, come over to pay a visit, and the Owl Man, with whom Mary is living in England, really has his hands full." - jacket notes. Those readers familiar with Paddington Bear will notice a similar theme in these stories of a young bear with a preschooler's attitudes immersed in English life. I believe these stories are older, first published in the 1930s. Somewhat dated, but still funny.… (mere)
