The setting is England during WWII, although the war doesn't really play a part in the story. The killer of the children was caught uniquely. A short book of 225 pages. I'm not really a mystery reader, but this kept my interest--3 stars, and extra 1/2 for being a well done period piece, although the word "sicko" was used and I don't believe that is a 1940's term.

My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review.
This is the fourth book in this excellent series, I have read books one and two, three is in my ever increasing to be read pile, but while there are references to the previous books this could be read as a standalone story, though my advice read all of them. Well written and researched the continuing coming of age saga of Icel trainee healer, now minor Lord and trainee warrior is totally gripping. Atmospheric descriptive so much so you almost feel a part of the story and witness to the sights smells of these times. Our hero being a healer leads to some graphic details of treating wounds. Immersive riveting totally engaging a real page turner, and completely and utterly recommended.… (mere)

I enjoyed this book! It was different for me. I have been on a historical fiction kick lately and this was the first time I've read a book from this time period with a younger main character. It's well written and entertaining! The action scenes are descriptive. It was a nice change seeing wessex through the eyes of someone other than its royalty!

This is the second book of this excellent series, and while there are some references to previous characters and story it does work as a standalone novel. This is one of my favourite genres and I have had the pleasure of standing in the 'Shield Wall' with Bernard Cornwells 'Uhtred ' Giles Kristians 'Raven' and the 'Oathsworn' of Robert Low, and this book is the equal of them, but in this book I had the unique experience of being in the second line behind the main action but still a part of the gruesome action. This was a book of virtually non stop action well written and researched with superb characterisation throughout. Our coming of age hero continues to develop and I look forward enormously to his next adventure. Engaging and entertaining from first to last page absolute quality throughout.
Completely and utterly recommended.
