Zack, Jillian, Sherlock and Watson find themselves spirited off to London to visit the Queen and try to find Jillian's missing brother who is working with MI-6 to locate missing artifacts. Lots of surprises, and not all of them desirable, but all are extremely interesting!
How can you NOT love the books in this series?! Especially when they are interpreted by popular voice artist Bob Johnson?

The stories do NOT have to be read in any kind of order as the author catches you up on the salient points with each book.

Zack, Jillian, Sherlock and Watson, with their good friends Tori and Vance are off to New Orleans to promote Zack's new book based in Ireland. Book signings and panels are Zack's personal idea of perdition, but then death makes an appearance! Along with the sleuthing they get caught up in police rivalry and some bets are placed, which brings in the fun aspect!

Cases of cranberries stolen from grocery stores! No fresh or frozen cranberries available for Thanksgiving!
If you've never met these two fun and furry crime solvers (Mr Sherlock and Ms Watson) and their widowed humans, you're missing a lot of fun! All of the characters certainly are, and the sleuthing is well done. This time winery owner Zack and his friend, local police detective Vance, take the Corgis and go to several crime scenes where all those cranberries have gone missing. Zack's fiancee Jillian, owner of The Cookbook Nook, is planning Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas decorations, and the wedding, while keeping a hand in the investigation. And those Corgis just keep leading their humans by the nose til they get it right!
Loved it! Easily a stand alone, but why?.
Bob Johnson aces the narration with just the right touch that highlights the humor by downplaying the guffaws.

The publisher's blurb is a good hook and only misses telling about the nasty person who feels entitled to the winery and performs one too many dirty tricks. All of the characters certainly are, and the sleuthing is well done. Loved it! Easily a stand alone, but why?

If you've never met these two fun and furry crime solvers (Mr Sherlock and Ms Watson) and their widowed humans, you're missing a lot of fun! Zack's girlfriend Jillian has bought a massive historic house and is having it renovated into a B&B. The house has a lot of interesting history and is said to be haunted as well as having a fortune in jewels hidden away in it. All of the characters certainly are, and the sleuthing is well done with lots of bootleggers nooks and hidey holes as well as good natured rivalry among friends. Loved it! Zack, his Corgis, and two friends go to the Arizona city where his wife's fatal car wreck happened nearly two years ago. Someone had been phoning him in the middle of the night for days and then he was contacted by a PI with the info that it did not seem that the wreck had been a normal accident. The man in the car behind hers had dash cam footage which raised serious questions. So comes the who, how, and why investigated by people and solved by the corgis named Sherlock and Watson!

The amazing detectives are a pair of Corgis belonging to a local winery owner who is thinking about courting the owner of the cookbook store. Suddenly there are three murders within a couple of days and the Corgis are diligently put to work at the request of their friend, the local police detective. Soon suspicion falls on another friend, the bakery owner who has had nothing but difficulties at the shop for the past few weeks. Great sleuthing by Corgis and humans alike. Lots of humor as well! Loved it!
Bob Johnson is the perfect narrator for this snarky cozy!

dogs, pets, dognappers, cozy-mystery, law-enforcement *****

Can't be an unbiased review because it has dogs, cops, and a John Deere tractor!
Someone is stealing purebred pet dogs in Pomme Valley including a child's service dog! What's even worse, the same thing happened in nearby Medford a few years ago. Zach might not be a detective, but his good friend Vance is as are Zach's pet Corgis, Sherlock and Watson. Zach tells the story of the investigation and how he came to buy an additional thirty five acres of land and a great big specialized John Deere. A good investigation with lots of red herrings and a twist or three.
The audio is performed by narrator Bob Johnson with the pleasant voice and easy interpretation of the interesting characters.

Synopsis:
Zack is a recent widower who inherits a house and some land in Oregon from a distant relative. Since he is mourning the death of his wife he decides that starting over somewhere else is the best thing he can do for himself. So, he moves. Almost immediately he has a corgi dog named Sherlock foisted on him and he also is accused of murder.
He and Sherlock must prove that Zack is innocent of the crime.

My rating: 4/5

I want to be clear here that my rating is based on my reading enjoyment and not necessarily how amazingly written the book was.
The mystery actually wasn't all that great. And, since it is a mystery I completely understand if that is kind of a turn off to people.
But, I absolutely loved the characters and particularly the authorial voice.
I loved Zack and Sherlock. I really enjoyed the exploration of the relationship between them. Particularly as Zack had never owned a dog before.
I appreciated how deep of a character Zack was. I don't often see a male protagonist in cozy mysteries and especially one who was sensitive and deep. His mourning for his wife touched my heart and Zack just seems like a nice guy. It is so refreshing to see a sensitive male character written by a male writer.
I loved following him.
If you love character driven stories and dogs then I recommend trying this book.
If you need an amazing mystery then this probably isn't' for you. It wasn't terrible. It was fine but the mystery itself didn't knock my socks off. The characters did and for me that was enough to make me eager to read more.

Great fun! Sherlock the corgi, Zack the dog lover, and Watson the new addition help the local authorities with a really messy case involving theft from a traveling museum exhibition from Egypt. The mystery is well done and no spoilers here, but there's lots of twists and red herrings as well as a lot of laughs! And take my word for it, the characters certainly are!
Bob Johnson gives the narration just the right spin to make the story even more enjoyable!

I really like this one too. The characters are realistic, the action is paced fairly well. The story is intriguing, and it ended with just a hint of what the third book will be about. I liked how everything tied together, but it seemed a little too easy. The only thing which had me wanting more was the danger. There was danger, but never to the point where a character you cared about was not going to make it. There was the potential for danger, but nothing that was edge of your seat, you didn't know what would happen type.

The main characters, Steve and Sarah, are almost too powerful. I understand why they are, and it fits the story, but there's no suspense with them. You know they can handle anything that is thrown at them, and then some. I really liked Annie and Tristan together. They are not all powerful, but still have some spunk to them. I liked how everything wove together, and the way they found out about the different puzzle pieces of what was going on.

To me, something in the next book needs to go really bad. One of these four characters has to get seriously hurt, to the point where you think they might be lost. Steve would go nuclear if it was Sarah. Sarah likewise would throw a fit if either Annie or Steve were taken out. I think the most advantageous would for either Annie or Tristan to be taken down, not dead, but injured enough that the people who care for them thought death was a real possibility. And having this thought, they become desperate, and do something they wouldn't ordinarily do. And this thing would be the crux of whatever they were trying to achieve. I think that Annie would have the most powerful impact, since Tristan, Steve and Sarah would all be heavily affected by it.

They can still have a happily ever after, but it's that fear for the life of a character that you love which makes a story feel real and exciting.

I really liked this book. I loved that it was a husband and wife as the main characters and that not only were they not 16, but they didn't know everything, and couldn't handle everything from the start. They had to learn and figure it out for themselves. They weren't in perfect shape, either. They felt like real people. Honestly, it felt the whole time that it could have been my husband and I on that journey. I don't know if we'd have done so well. I could see myself complaining a lot more than Sarah was! It read like a stand alone book, but are two more in the series. The world was great, dragons, griffins, and dwarves with unique plants, and magic!

The story wasn't exactly new and ingenious, and it felt a lot like Wizard of oz. Get stuck somewhere you can't get home from, find someone powerful that can send you back. On the way you meet some friends, fight some battles, go on a side quest to help someone to get something for the powerful people who can send you home, only to find out more about yourself along the way than you thought possible.

It wasn't a heavy book, it felt fun and exciting the whole way through but without too much angst and drama (probably because the characters were in their twenties and past the angst and drama stage of YA books I've read lately). It was refreshing.

The author created a very interesting world and filled it with some nice mystical creatures and people with magical abilities. There were a few POV switchbacks that kinda threw me for a minute or two, but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall, this was an enjoyable story for the Young Adult - Teen lovers of Fantasy.

The book gets off to a rocky start. The language is awkward, the description (and the situations themselves) cursory. There are frequent and unposted changes of point of view. Much of the plotting is perfunctory, and in fact, the book often reads more like a description of someone's role playing game than as a true story - there are lots of puzzles to solve, and very little actual risk.

That said, the story is engaging and interesting - enough that I wish the supporting writing had been stronger. I'd be interested to find out what happens, which is at least one sign of a good story.

I'm not sure, though, that I'd be willing to read another. For one thing, the characterization has pretty strong overtones of machismo, homophobia, and outright sexism. For example, the male protagonist suddenly realizes he's holding a man's hand, and hastily lets go. His wife, in the unfortunate Heinlein/Jordan tradition, is smarter and more capable than he is, but needs protection from the harsh realities of the world. In the 1950s and 60s, this was the norm. It's not now, and it's a bit hard to take. In addition, there are fairly frequent consistency errors, errors of language (compliment/complement), and copy-editing that's not the best.

Immediately after I finished reading, I was interested to see what was next. On brief reflection, I'm not as enthused, for the reasons above.

Overall, a decent, fast-moving, and fun exploration of fantasy wish-fulfillment, but substantially held back by poor editing and outdated attitudes.
