Robert E. Pike (1905–1997)

The earliest edition of this book was 1959. An updated edition included material 2 years hence. For this book, Robert Pike came forth as a rural travelling interviewer. He encouraged those he met to reminisce about days of yore. Then he would write down as best remembered what they said in a way to make us feel we were there. The scope of subjects were wide and facts were checked when possible. History, nature, folk-lore, and occupations of the time with a special emphasis on the lumber trade is scattered throughout the pages. Some chapters may seem to go on a bit long whereas others end too early. There is basically something for everyone in this wholly enjoyable read!
