Disappointing,to say the least. How a publisher stands over releasing a work like this is beyond me. Doubtful if any proof reading was done, as there are so many grammatical errors it takes the pleasure from reading it. Also, would question the accuracy of some of the detail. There are no footnotes or endnotes to indicate the sources of any of the material. A cursory bibliography does not provide much enlightenment. Other than as a list of battles which were fought in Ireland, it is of little use. All in all a very disappointing work, best left on the bookstore shelf.… (mere)

Despite its brevity this is both an excellent introduction to the birth of the modern Irish state, and a useful resource on the period.

A nice collection of quotes from Celtic literature from the 5th century to the 19th, and covering Breton, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish sources, though heavier on Irish and Welsh.

Not the trite Irish Blessing type of collection, but a wide ranging selection - some serious; some humorous; some romantic. Some real gems. Not bad for a very small book.
