Love Woven in Time: A Ligonier Golden Romance af Karen Malena
I would call this an atypical romance. Rose starts the book off as a somewhat lonely lady. She makes a new friend when Harry moves into the complex where she lives, and Harry's daughter Abby unofficially adopts Rose into their family. At the same time, God is moving in Rose's and her daughter's lives to heal old wounds. Harry and Rose discover a shared past that grows into second love for both of them.
Speculative fiction is a genre I don't read nearly as much now as I did during my early twenties, so I'm far from an expert on the genre. That being said, Karena Malena's SOUND OF SILENCE does a nice job of establishing a universe and introducing characters for what is sure to be a much longer and involved tale. The prose is well-written and smooth.
Although a bit of deus ex machina sets events in motion, the not-too-distant world presented wheres the government monitors all communications seems plausible enough - both frightening and compelling.
Recommended for fans of speculative fiction. I look forward to seeing how the tale progresses in future installments.
