3.5 stars.

As short as this is, I took a rather convoluted route to end up at three, should be 3.5, stars. I enjoy super powered humans stories. But some of the worldbuilding didn't make much sense to me, and the romance was nonexistent until it wasn't. Part of that is because it is single point-of-view rather than dual, and the love interest is difficult to read. Anyway, I don't regret reading this, it was fun, and 3 or more stars means if it appeals to you, go for it!

DNF at just 7%.

I have been trying to connect with this one, but it won't take. It wants to be clever, but for me comes off as flippant and careless. The worldbuilding is goofy, the lead character is clueless, and despite this being free, it would cost me too much to continue trying to read it. The author so far has given me some "fights" and some interactions at HQ, and a hint of enemy to lover interest, but has not given me any reason to care about any of it.

I often enjoy superhero stories. But flat characters in a cartoon world don't do it for me.… (mere)

The Captain’s Men is book one in the ‘Adrift’ series. It’s the tale of a Captain, his crewmembers, and their sexual romps. The story is told in third person from multiple povs.

Because of the actions of an alien race, the Captain and crew of ‘The Prayer’ were tossed far out into space, far away from our solar system and they have no idea where they are. Adrift for four years, every day is the same and there is no hope of ever going back home even though they all pretend they might go back one day, all except one man on board.

The Captain is a mysterious man. No one really knows much about him. He’s stern and demands perfection from everyone. One day everything changes when he walks onto the bridge without his shoes and socks. It turns out Tom has a foot fetish or more like he hasn’t had sex in so long that naked feet attract him. Tom’s the first to have sex with the Captain. After that, the Captain tries to convince himself that he won’t seduce any of the others, but that doesn’t go so well.

Eventually all the male crew are having sex with the Captain. Each man has different sexual tastes and each chapter in this short story is about how the crewmembers end up with the captain. Yes, there is a lot of sex, but at the same time, there’s also introspection by the men on what they think of the captain and the other members lost in space with them.

This is a humorous book. I found myself laughing at many places in the story. This book also has lots of sex, but after the initial encounter with each crewmember, the sex in future scenes is a fade to black or as a memory. The sex was still a little much for me since I would’ve liked more information about the aliens that were able to fling their ship out into a different part of the Universe, characterization, and other sci-fi ideas. This of course is personal preference.

The Captain’s Men is well written and I don’t remember finding many, if any, grammatical errors. I intend to read the rest of the series. If the author hasn’t already, I’d suggest putting all the books in this series into one book. It doesn’t take long to read the first book and I found it entertaining. I give this story 4 Stars.

I began reading this at one o'clock in the morning and needed something light after I had a bad time reading my last book (K.J. Lewis - Sunday Love) and the title made me laugh. I think I did the same when I added this to my reading list.

It was a fun cute read and perfect for the moment.
