Kort biografi
Despite finding time to write historical novels and The Dangerous Book for Boys, Conn Iggulden is in some ways better known as a trainer of Tollins. His Tollin troupe, "Small and Mighty," are famous in Tasmania, where they often play to packed houses. "It used to be just a hobby," he says, "but when you've seen a display of Tollin synchronized flying, you realize it's your life's work. Also, they can be transported in shoe boxes, so it's pretty cheap to get around."

Enjoyed it! Aside from the fact that the pacing was a bit fast, a ton was covered in this book and there was never a dull moment. If you’ve gotten this far you certainly won’t be disappointed now.

Really enjoyed this - Conn’s style fits this type of topic really well, and the audiobook narrator was a perfect fit for the story as well. Overall, there are places the book could have included more historical details, but it does a great job of telling a good story within relevant historical context, and I definitely learned about the world of the time. Books like this succeed when they make you start to think and wonder what living at that time in history yourself would have been like - would you have acted like the characters, in their context? On that front, this book succeeded, and I’m intrigued to see where the story goes next.… (mere)

A good continuation to the series. The change of narrator was jarring at first, with some pronunciation changes, but I got used to it. Starts slow, with Caesar in Spain, and a sense of lethargy about his work there that extends to the reader as well, but quickly picks up the pace and ultimately covers his campaigns in Gaul and Britain. The main downside here was that I found losing the perspective of Alexandria and Servilia for much of the book was a miss, as well as the inconsistent and hard-to-follow pacing throughout the campaign. Overall, a lot of time passes in this book without my being totally sure what happened when and where multiple years were skipped. Maybe there’s a timeline in the print copy?… (mere)

This was solid. The character development was good, and the story progressed well from the first book. I was left a bit curious about the level of factual accuracy - I wish the author had written another epilogue to talk through that like in the first book. The only negative is that the development of Caesar’s character itself was increasingly not detailed over the course of the book.
