This is a cute story of a young rabbit named Danny who goes out to play in the snow for the very first time. He is a very imaginative bunny and see all different types of animals in the snow to play with and also sees some not so friendly animals. Overall, his first experience with snow was a very good one and he cant wait to out to play again. The illustrations in this book were very unique they had a fuzzy/dot look to it which points out the snow. A writing prompt that may go with this story is to ask them how their first snow experience and if they never experienced snow what do you think it would be like?

This is a cute children's book. It will teach young readers about what different things animals eat. Many animals like to eat some of the same things. It also will teach about the food chain because some animals eat other animals/living things. The bright bold illustrations do great at keeping the readers attention and some of the pages are shaped like food items. Very fun book to share to readers that are just learning about animals and types of foods they eat.½

Cute animal book about what each animal eats. However, this is yet again another book that says cats drink milk, NOOOOO!

A cute story of animals attempting to find uses for a found book, until a child shows them by reading it aloud. I would use it to highlight features of print and to discuss appropriate use of classroom tools.

The pages in this book aren't all cut out to regular size. It's a wonderfully illustrated book that flows well. It teaches about different animals and what they eat without being overly stressful about it.

This story explains what different animals eat. It is good for teaching younger children in prek-k. It was colorful, and attention grabbing yet still informative.½

Gore shows how a an item can bring people, or animals, together. In The Wonderful Book, a little rabbit, a grumpy bear, a hungry family of mice, a tired fox, a little pink worm and a curious boy all come a cross a red book. Each one looks at it differently; They see a house, a hat, a table, a bed, a tasty-looking flower, and finally a book. As the boy reads the book, the animals come from out of the forest to listen to the boy read. The red book turns out to be about all of them.½

The Wonderful Book, shows how books can bring people together. A bear, a fox, a few mice, and a worm all stumbled upon this very book to find out they have many different uses for it. When a young boy finds the book and begins to read all the curious animals gather around to listen how wonderful this book really is. This book brings a few friends together and can show students how enjoyable reading can be.

Danny wakes up to his first snow. He has never seen it before. When he goes outside he comes across a few "snow" animals. he thinks they are real animals. When he ges home his mother asks him if he discovered what snow meant. He said yes and that he couldn't wait to fin out what snow would be tomorrow.

Pretty cute book, but nothing out of the ordinary here. Nice, "wintery" illustrations.

You know, this book is a lot of fun. I really don't know what else to say about it other than that's a good book to read toward the start of a school year as an introduction to how to handle a book correctly. It was silly, got a couple of laughs, and served its purpose well. I'll probably use it again next year. It was fun.

A series of woodland animals make various uses of the strange object they find abandoned on the forest floor - a rabbit uses it as a shelter, a bear decides it is a hat, a little fox thinks it is a bed, and a worm attempts to make it a meal - until finally, a little boy happens by and, perceiving that it is a book, begins to read the story. Slowly, the various creatures are won over, gathering around to hear a tale that sounds suspiciously like their own...

Although I have read a number of picture-book illustrated by Leonid Gore, from Alma Flor Ada's The Malachite Palace to Marianna Mayer's The Boy Who Ran With The Gazelles, I don't think I've ever picked up one of his own stories before. I'm glad that I now finally have, as I found The Wonderful Book to be a sweet and engaging little tale - it may well be that I am folklore-obsessed, but I was reminded a bit of the famous Ukrainian story of The Mitten - and (as always) appreciated the artwork. Recommended to young readers who enjoy animal stories, and to Leonid Gore fans.

(I’m thankful that the author used capital letters in the text of the story.)

I had forgotten that I had read danny*s first snow before—when Steven was living with us. But I remember now his reaction to it: he didn’t get it.

Gore has drawn “delicate pastels and acrylics” of snowy outdoor scenes where the trees and bushes look like different animals. Steven couldn’t figure out where the animals were. On one page where he did see them, he didn’t understand that it was also a picture of a tree with snow on it.

But I can hardly blame him – I’ve never seen trees and bushes that look like that and I’ve seen plenty snow-covered nature. The story itself wasn’t anything special, either.

I’m sorry, Leonid, but I think it’s worth only 2 stars.

I loved this book! This is such a wonderful book to share with young students. This book can teach students what certain animals eat. The illustrations in the book are beautiful. I loved how the author would cut out, shape the pages for young readers to understand.

The Wonderful Book is about a red book that was on the forest floor. So many different animals came upon it and used it for different things such as a house, hat, table, a bed, and the worm even thought it was a flower to it, until a little boy found it. He was excited and he sat down to read the book which turned out to be about all the same forest animals. All the animals that came across the red book also sat down to listen to the little boy read it, and they all agreed it was a good book.

About a book that is found in the forest; first by a rabbit, then a bear, some mice, then a fox, a worm, and finally a boy. When the boy begins to read the story is about this exact story. Cute illustrations.

Completely adorable choice for storytime or lap reading to a preschooler. Simple illustrations and a charming finish set it apart.½

"Who eats worms for lunch? Not me." says the mouse (to the worm). A great pre-k choice for a read aloud, this book will engender involvement as many of the animals are connected in some way. The cat's diet follows the mouse. The cow's diet follows the cat's predilection for milk -- you get the idea. The ending adds a savvy literary device breaking the barrier between reader and story: "You can eat me... I'm a character in the book," the worm says.½

A rhyming book with a young chanracter who has never seen snow. The snow made animal figures on the ground and he played with them. He learned that the snow will change every day.

Each animal used the book for a different purpose. The rabbit as a house, the bear as a hat, the mice as a table, the fox as a bed, the worm ALMOST for lunch, until the boy found the book and read it aloud to all the animals.
GREAT book for introducing the purpose of books.
