Marc Friedlaender was an American English professor and historian, best known as a co-editor of the Adams Papers. He was educated at Harvard, earning a BA and MA, and then going on to get a PhD from the University of Chicago. He was married to Clara May Beer in 1933 and had two children and five grandchildren. Friedlaender taught at Tulane University, the Women's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Vassar College, and in 1959 was a co-founder of Athenaeum Publishers of New York. In 1965 he moved to Boston to become co-editor of the Adams Papers at the Massachusetts Historical Society, and he edited and co-edited twelve volumes of the papers. He died on Thanksgiving Day in 1992.
