Margaret Cox

Between 1984 and 1989 an archaeological project took place at Christ Church, Spitalfields. It centred around the excavation of the vaults beneath the church and the analysis of the skeletons and artefacts uncovered. Of 1000 skeletons, 387 were of known name and age, they had been buried between 1729-1859. Margaret Cox has taken the reports on the project and reconstructed the life histories of many of these individuals, giving a fascinating insight into contemporary marriage and childbirth, diet and death, occupation and living conditions - and the culture of death at that time.… (mere)
