Troy Cook worked on over 80 feature films, writing and directing his first at age 24. Shooting films in exotic locations led to brushes with the Russian Mafia, money launderers, and murderers. After surviving an attempted coup, riots, and violent demonstrations, he's decided it's safer to write novels.

His award-winning debut, 47 Rules of Highly Effective Bank Robbers, received eight nominations including the Anthony, Book of the Year, the Macavity, and the Lefty Award. His second novel, The One Minute Assassin (Sept 2007), was immediately picked by the Ind. Mystery Booksellers Assn. as a "Killer Book" and was featured in Publishers Weekly as a "Fall Indie Surprise."

Troy was a child actor, assistant manager at McDonald's, worked at a movie theater, and owned a house painting company. A black cat with no tail, named Ranger, rules over his house in Colorado.

This is a great first book by author Troy Cook. It's very clever and very fun and very well done. Wyatt raised his daughter, Tara, to be a bank robber. Now she's grown and ready to strike out on her own. She's got the rules and then she meets a guy. I am generally annoyed when authors are compared to Carl Hiaasen, but in this case, the comparison is apt. I sure hope this is the first of many.

Another easy read in an amusing book from author of "47 rules of highly effective bank robbers" with another title playing on those how-to management guides. This novel is not as overtly funny as the preceding book which was more of a crime caper whereas this delves into US politics and the oddball candidates and associated characters which are attracted to contest the California election. John Black and his Aussie partner, Harley, extract child support payments from delinquent dads by fair means or foul and occasionally do more than this but as Black hails from the californian equivalent of the Kennedy clan he is pressed into running in place of his sister who lies unconscious following a failed assassination. Throw in rappers, wrestlers, ex-KGB Russian mafia and you have everything you need for an entertaining read.… (mere)

In these difficult economic times it would be nice if this was actually a "how to" guide or an insiders look at how the banks got us in this mess but this is actually a relatively light crime novel - not a mystery as you pretty much know from the outset who the good guys and bad guys are (and those in-between that you can't help rooting for). Not too challenging as it isn't long or gruesome and has some nice light hearted touches but we never do get a full rundown of what those 47 rules are.
