Another opulent volume in the Monuments of Civilization series, this one deals with Renaissance architecture, painting and sculpture in the three main centres of post-empire Italy. The large format photographs take you right into the landscape, and give a close-up of the paintings, frescoes, and sculptures - possibly much closer that even a physical visit would afford; moreover, a casual visitor would probably not even be able to physically visit so many sites in a lifetime.
