3.5 stars. Enjoyed it more than expected but still not super original! More thoughts on this later.

I had high hopes for this one but was left disappointed. For simplicity's sake, I will just write a pro and con list.

Pro:
This is a very clean book, barely any cussing and appropriate for younger teens.

Con:
Despite what the title says, this book is NOT about spying. Any and all mentions of spying were glossed over and did not mention many facts.
MC cheated on the man she was seeing with a friend from childhood. I don't care what anyone says, but this is not ok.
Still on that last point -- The love triangle was not my favorite in the least.
This book may have been a miss for me, but if you're a fan of historical fiction, it may be worth a try.
Rating: 2/5
Language: s*** one time, d*** one or two times
Romance: a kiss
Spiritual: characters believe in God
Violence: set during the American Revolution but not detailed, MC's stepfather attempts to harm her
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this one. I like the idea, but I'm on the fence about the main character. It was interesting enough that I'll read the next one, and see how it progresses.

Its amazing to me that so many authors write dystopian fantasies where it seems that people of color apparently don't survive the 'apocalypse'.

That said, this is a good one--it's nice to find a YA withOUT a love triangle.

You know how some authors run out of material, and stretch three chapters worth of story into a whole book? This is it.

Cringe and lame, but I’m not going to overdose on the hater juice, as much as I want to. Probably going to read the third one tonight and hopefully it is marginally better than this.

Not as much of a drag as the previous. Also not as much of a cringe fest. Ending was meh, but it’s done so whatever.

is the book:

Dystopian - check
fantasy - check
paranormal - check

I can't say too much because it will ruin the book, but I can honestly say this book is fantastic. I started reading this book, and then I finished it and read book 2, and now I am on the last one in this series. Now I'm actually writing this as I begin to listen to the last book in the trilogy. It's that good.

I gave up. I kept running into incredibly predictable and yet flinchy story mechanics, and got fed up with it about halfway through. I had high hopes, though. :/

I absolutely love this trilogy. I was very satisfied with the ending. I only have one tiny part I was a little disappointed with....

SPOILERS...

I really really wish we got to see what happened with Cinder. I mean obviously he's dead but I would have liked to read a little more about HOW everything happened and what happened when Cinder and Perry got separated. That's my only complaint. I love that Aria finally finds out who her dad is. I love Brooke and Soren at the end

If I had to describe 'Into the Still Blue' in one word it would be satisfying .
In my opinion a great, smooth conclusion to the trilogy. Rossi didn't need an incredibly dramatic, heartbreaking end and that's one of the reasons I found this book perfect.
There was great pacing, it didn't feel too rushed or like things were happening just because it needed to be tied up before the ending. The characters continued to feel relatable and I for one actually began to like Soren by the ending which I would never have ever seen coming. I'm especially glad none of our main characters were killed off because I am quite attached to these characters and would have been quite devastated!

Overall, I thought 'Into the Still Blue' was perfect .
I will continue to hold this trilogy as one of my favourite teen trilogies for sure and hope that everyone else will enjoy it as much as I did!

PS, Thank you to Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this ARC! I am incredibly grateful and couldn't have been more excited to read it!

I'm not sure if I did these out of order, or if I did them right. I read this one first because it was the prequel book. I kind of loved the characters and the lay out a whole lot (which led me to some problems when I slammed book one). I loved the mysterious culture, the power struggle, everything. I was really pumped to push into the novel after this book.

My problem with reading the prequel first, maybe, started really, really early in this book.

I was utterly confused to who Aria was. I was utterly confused to how there were dome's and there was a society that had technology, when there was not a whiff of any kind of industrialization mentioned *anywhere* in Roar and Liv. Then there were Roar and Per details that didn't match up in Book one, for how they played out in the prequel that confused me even more as the story was rolling out a reveal between our two characters. Which became a bigger problem later on in it for me.

I really did love the middle of this book though. I do think the two characters fell in love too quickly for their situation, but how they met. This massive animosity and will to survive. The tromp/trudge through the desert. All the mistakes Aria makes. All the concession he has to give to keep her alive. The way they only slow give each other any answers. They way the presence of each other changes them. This would have been such a great background for a slow enemies, to comrades, to friends, to love for me, I think, if it hadn't been forced to take place in the space of two weeks instead of two books.

I have other minor complaints about convenient storytelling, and how details and people pop up really conveniently. I saw the big twist coming way too early on in the book, and found it, strangely, too convenient on its own. I wish we could see more about how the politics worked. How the domes and the systems there were. But I really left this feeling as not happy about this book as Roar & Liv had left me happy, so it may be a very long time before I consider reading the next one.

When I started this book, I expected to be completely unimpressed - it is, after all, from That Era of YA Where Love Triangles and Cheesy Storylines Prevail. And you know what? It's not a masterpiece, it really isn't. But it also just still manages to be interesting enough that I want to know the rest of the story.

Rossi makes bold choices in Through the Ever Night with character and love story treatment that you just don't see in other YA dystopian trilogies from this era. It keeps the book interesting even when some of the plot complications are solved too easily. You just can't trust the book to be entirely predictable, and I respect that.

Through the Ever Night may not be a re-read book for me, but Rossi has me just hooked enough to want to see this story through to it's conclusion.½

A Post-apocalyptic YA novel about a teen girl who has grown up in one of several pod cities, sheltered from the harsh realities of the outside world, a teen boy who has only known those harsh realities and is headed for a fight to the death with his brother for rule of their tribe, and what happens when they meet.

A pretty good story with good characters. It felt like it dragged a bit in the middle, but by the end I was eager to find out how it...ended. First in a series and I'll probably come back to it someday.

This book was fast pace and easy to dive into. Frannie is a young woman living in Grand Bahama Island in 1776. Emmie Coates is a proper lady living in New York City at the height of the American Revolution in 1779. These two women are intertwine and their lives only intensifies from there. Through mutual friends, Emmie becomes a spy for the American side and her correspondences go directly to General Washington to help make strategic decisions. But when someone from the past shows up, all goes to hell and Emmie must make a decision that will haunt her for a really long time. I absolutely loved this book and almost want to reread it to pick up on all the things that I missed while reading it. Throughout the book, I had a knot in my stomach waiting for a shoe to drop. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who loves a good spy novel and about doing what is right, not what is easy!

This series never quite swept me away in the way that Hunger Games or Divergent or Legend did, but it tells a good story, and I would definitely place it right under those books in the second tier of solid post-apocalyptic dystopian books. The thing I do love about this series is that it is consistently well written and unlike all those other series, the story arc works all the way through the third book. A satisfying ending to a story that stays true to itself.
