This novel is about learning to work with someone you've never met before to solve problems and get to know each other better, which might lead to unexpected love. The conflict in this novel is that the two characters, Hannah and Leo, wake up one day and it is just the two of them left in the city and they don’t know if they are dead or in an apocalypse. The only way to find out is to search for answers but, if they don't find answers soon they might be separated forever. The conflict in this novel helps the two characters connect on a level neither of them has had before.
The main characters of this novel are Hannah and Leo. Hannah is the protagonist because she is the first one to wake up and find Leo in their empty city of Houston and she plays the biggest role between her and Leo. Nature is the antagonist of this novel because when Hannah and Leo are trying to search for answers it feels that nature is pushing against them and stopping them from finding answers to what's going on. Leo is also a main character of this novel because if he wasn't included the theme would be totally different and the connections between him and Hannah would not have been made.
This novel could be relatable for some people. Not in the sense of the apocalypse, but the part about the connection between two people that is unexpected. The main characters both bring out the other person's side of emotions that they've never portrayed before. Seeing the characters so close to someone who brings out the best in them made me happy. The characters never thought they needed a person like that until they met each other and realized they could be separated forever if they didn't find answers.
I recommend this novel because it keeps you on the edge of your seat and keeps you interested throughout the whole book. I usually get bored with books when I start reading them for a while, but this one felt different. I also liked that you could put yourself in the place that the characters were in and you could picture what was happening in your mind. Although it is all over the place at the start of the book, towards the end it gets fascinating and starts making more sense. So, if you like romantically mysterious books, you will most likely enjoy this novel.… (mere)
