The material in the book is intended for a first course on appliedprobability and statistics for engineering students at thesophomore or junior level, or for self study, stressingprobabilistic modeling and the fundamentals of statisticalinferences. The primary aim is to provide an in-depth understandingof the fundamentals for the proper application in engineeringproblems. The second edition of this well-known book (previously titledProbability Concepts in Engineering Planning and Design) byAlfredo Ang and Wilson Tang, two world-renowned educators, has beenrevised to simplify understanding the fundamentals of probabilityand statistics for engineering students. The second editionincludes many new and expanded topics, including hypothesis testingand confidence intervals in regression analysis. Students usingthis text will develop the ability to formulate and solvereal-world problems in engineering. The authors accomplish this byexplaining all the concepts and methods through a variety ofrelevant engineering and physical problems.   Each basic principle is presented and illustrated throughdifferent examples relevant to engineering and the physicalsciences, particularly civil and environmental engineering. The exercise problems in each chapter further enhance understandingof basic concepts and reinforce a working knowledge of concepts andmethods. The authors firmly believe that the easiest and mosteffective way for engineers to learn and master a new set ofabstract principles is to apply them to a variety ofapplications.… (mere)
