Why won't God reveal his special will for my life already?

Because he doesn't intend to... So says Kevin DeYoung in this punchy book about making decisions the godly way.

Many of us are listening for the still small voice to tell us what's next instead of listening to the clear voice in Scripture telling us what's now. God does have a will for your life, but it is the same as everyone else's: Seek first the kingdom of God. And quit floundering.

With pastoral wisdom and tasteful wit, DeYoung debunks unbiblical ways of understanding God's will and constructs a simple but biblical alternative: live like Christ. He exposes the frustrations of our waiting games and unfolds the freedom of finding God's will in Scripture and then simply doing it.

This book is a call to put down our Magic 8-Balls and pick up God's Word. It's a call to get wisdom, follow Christ, be holy, and live freely. To just do something.

Just Do Something is a must read book for every believer, bar none.

This is the most beneficial book I have read all year. As some may know, I came out of false teaching (New Apostolic Reformation and Word of Faith movements) in 2019, and though I had already rejected former erroneous ways of approaching God’s will, this book put the truth about God’s will into words well rooted in the Scriptures, and in a way that brought assurance to my heart.

Even more, this is a book I wish I had read when I became a believer over 15 years ago. It would have kept me from a lot of heartache, wasted time, and misunderstanding regarding following God’s will in every day life. This is another book that is definitely going on the resource list!

One thing I would add, that I’ve learned from experience and I believe is wisdom, but the book didn’t seem to mention is this: Avoid making big life-altering decisions under pressure from others or under the influence of strong emotions. I’ve done that in my life at times and looking back I wish I had not moved so hastily based on such things. (Of course this does not apply to some situations such as abusive or dangerous ones where safety should be sought immediately.)

Honestly this is a book that every believer should read and take to heart, especially if you have been under ideas about God’s will as mentioned in the alternative title of this book:

“How to Make a Decision Without Dreams, Visions, Fleeces, Impressions, Open Doors, Random Bible Verses, Casting Lots, Liver Shivers, Writing in the Sky, etc.”

Go buy this book and read it. You will be glad you did. ( )

Must-read for all young people

This is a must-read book for the generation of young Christians who are hyper-spiritualizing every decision that comes their way and ultimately not doing anything! ( )

Great primer on Scriptures survey of God’s will and how to pursue it. Kevin does get heavy handed on Single Men, and I think more compassion is necessary for Godly guys who can’t find a godly gal that they can marry other than their passive and indecisive. Other than that, it’s a great read. ( )

Brilliant and much needed at this time in the church. DeYoung encourages to jettison our obsession with finding "the path" and rest in providence. Brutally he points out how we seek to save face with others under the guise of being spiritual. Oooo... It hurts to be called out on my lack of faith. ( )
