Fiction. Romance. Historical Fiction. HTML:BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Mary Balogh's The Secret Mistress.

All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention. But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the dukeâ??s eyeâ??and she was the only female in the room who wasnâ??t even trying. Christine Derrick is intrigued by the handsome dukeâ?¦all the more so when he invites her to become his mistress.

What red-blooded woman wouldnâ??t enjoy a tumble in the bedsheets with a consummate loverâ??with no strings and no questions asked. An infuriating lady with very definite views on men, morals, and marriage, Christine confounds Wulfric at every turn. Yet even as the lone wolf of the Bedwyn clan vows to seduce her any way he can, something strange and wonderful is happening. Now for a man who thought heâ??d never lose his heart, nothing less than love will do.

With her trademark wit, riveting storytelling, and sizzling sexual sparks, Mary Balogh once again brings together two polar opposites: an irresistible, high-and-mighty aristocrat and the impulsive, pleasure-loving woman who shows him what true passion is all about. A man and a woman so wrong for each other, it can result only

This was my favorite book of the series! - Very pleased that Wulf got his story and his HEA; becoming a Duke at the age of 17 AND responsible for his siblings. How so like him, to find love AFTER all of his siblings are married and have started their families. Job well done Ms. Balogh - - this book has a permanent place on my bookshelf. ( )

Definite overtones of [b:Pride and Prejudice|1885|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320399351s/1885.jpg|3060926] but the dudely protagonist's journey is a more satisfying one than Darcy's, if only because we get part of the story from his perspective. Very charming and sweet. The ending was a bit rushed, but otherwise, I loved just about everything. ( )

Big echoes of Pride and Prejudice here. It’s not a rip-off or anything, but there are many similarities, although Wulf is more Darcy than Christine is Elizabeth.
I skipped right to Wulf’s book after meeting him in book 1 of the Bedwyn books, and after this, I definitely want to go back and read about the other four siblings. I really love Wulf, though, and I was eager to read his story.
Frankly, I could have used more swoons. There was a lot of angst and bad feeling that went on for far too long, and Christine got rather mean a few times. The best part was the house party with all the Bedwyns. I loved how they interacted with each other and started matchmaking for Wulf and Christine. I thought there was potential for a Lady Katherine-esque scene, but I wasn’t sad when it didn’t happen.
Worth reading, but I wish the stubbornness and misunderstanding hadn’t been so drawn out. ( )
