I'm not really sure what this book was even about. It was a confusing story about a bird with a plan to escape captivity. I didn't like it all. The book didn't make very much sense and jumped all over the place. ( )

In Pickleberry there is an Emperor, who has a twin brother who is a janitor. They have a bird named Lou, and the is a half invisible man. The janitor tricks his brother to give him back the candlestick. ( )

This is essentially three fables in one epic, nonsensical tale: The tale of the emperor and his brother the janitor; the tale of how Lou and Aunt Millie outwit the emperor and his brother and the traveling salesman; and the tale of the bear that Lou tells the salesman. My favorite character is the invisible half-citizen, who serves almost no purpose in any of the stories! The nonlinear fashion in which these linked tales are told helps the reader, no matter her age, feel triumphant at learning the Why and How when presented well after the Who. ( )
