"White No-Face's mask is off, and the final conflict has begun. Deep in the ancient caverns and lava flows of Mount Tonglu, Xie Lian must face the one whose hatred has plagued him for centuries--but this time, he won't have to do it alone. His beloved, Hua Cheng, has spent his long existence amassing the power to protect him, and now with their feelings for each other out in the open, they have all the more reason to fight for survival"--… (mere)
An absolutely phenomenal ending to the story. I've truly enjoyed rereading this. The cover art by tai3_3 is beautiful as ever. ZeldaCW's interior art is gorgeous and cute, and I love the scenes chosen for artwork.
So many wonderful scenes take place in this part of the novel, and the Extras are wonderful on their own, too. I'll never stop laughing at the scene where Heaven's Eye asks why Xie Lian has evil qi INSIDE his body. I know TGCF is the most self-censored of MXTX's books, but goodness she pulled out as many stops as she could all the same, particularly for the end and in the Extras. The intimate scenes and references to intimacy between Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are so cute, funny, and wonderful. Hua Cheng really does use his gege hard! And Xie Lian loves it. And I love that for them.
I also love to see how far the cast has come. Feng Xin and Mu Qing are repairing their relationships with Xie Lian, and it's really sweet, particularly in how much both of the former care about Xie Lian. Mu Qing repairing Ruoye is just so wonderful. And Feng Xin and Mu Qing seem to have a better relationship with each other. I also love the promise of Quan Yizhen nurturing Yin Yu's soul back to love, since they're my favorite couple, and Yin Yu being back to life in the end (but still serving Hua Cheng) just makes me scream with joy. I also love Lang Qianqiu keeping a lantern of Qi Rong's soul fragments for Guzi, and the promise of that.
Perhaps my one issue is that Shi Qingxuan is left to live as a homeless person with his injuries, and for no apparent reason, Xie Lian and all Shi Qingxuan's friends leave him that way. I feel like they should at least heal him and set him up in a better place. I imagine it's down to what Shi Qingxuan feels he deserves or something, but who knows?
The Extras are so fun, and so funny. Hua Cheng's relentless teasing of Xie Lian is so sweet, and Xie Lian's fondness for him is so lovely. Hua Cheng trying his best to take care of Xie Lian during his amnesia is so wonderful, and Xie Lian trying to do his best for Hua Cheng ends me. The statues extra is so hilarious and sweet in particular.
All in all, a wonderful book, a wonderful ending. I'm so glad the set is now complete. I would highly recommend anyone who likes this pick up Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's other big works, "The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System" and "Mo Dao Zu Shi", since both are spectacular as well. The donghua for TGCF is also currently airing its second season, and is quite delightful. And maybe with luck, someday the live-action adaptation will be allowed to be released. ( )
