As one might surmise from the title, this is not a book for the easily offended, if such individuals still exist. The author is a slang-slinging Gen Zer who suffuses each animal's description with street lingo and allusions from popular culture. For mine, this added to the fun of the book, even though I didn't always know what the meanings of the words were, one can usually puzzle the meaning out from context. I suppose that a glossary would have been just too uncool. The author is definitely at pains to include several species whose reputations are pretty benign, such as otters and dolphins, and I definitely felt that serpents were severely underrepresented, but on the whole this approach did more to educate than including many species of well-known snakes known to be dangerous; ( )

I had no idea so many animals contained venom and toxins. Lighthearted and good for a couple of laughs. The audio book was read by the author and fun to listen to. Each animal is like a 2-3 minute segment, so it felt choppy, but get that was the point. ( )

a fun take on the animal books so many of us had as kids. the tone here is very jokey casual, with curse words and quips all over the place. but the information about the animals is the draw, he's just made it more palatable for many adults. (i'd have been fine with the photos and the info. but it's true that i might not have picked it up if not for the title.) there is some really interesting information in this, although of course often it's like - wait, i need more detail about that!. each entry is just a page or two so there isn't much dedicated to each animal, which is like the books we had as kids, so if you need to learn more, you can do more research on your own. he's presented the highlights and in an engaging way.
