**An INSTANT Indie Bestseller!** "A nervy, intense, and expertly crafted thriller that kept me hooked page after page. Dark secrets? Summer camp setting? Complex teen girls? Murder? Count me in. A simply stunning book." --Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of Girl in Pieces, You'd Be Home Now, and The Agathas From New York Times bestselling author Jessica Goodman comes a twisty new thriller about three best friends, one elite summer camp, and the dark secrets that lead to a body in the lake. Camp Alpine Lake is the only place where Goldie Easton feels safe.   She's always had a special connection to the place, even before she was old enough to attend. The camp is the lifeline of Roxwood, the small town she lives in. Alpine Lake provides jobs, money and prestige to the region. Few Roxwood locals, though, get to reap the rewards of living so close to the glam summer that camp, with its five-figure tuition and rich kids who have been dumped there for eight weeks by their powerful parents. Goldie's one of them.   Even with her "townie" background, Goldie has never felt more at home at camp and now she's back as a counselor, desperate for summer to start and her best friends, Ava and Imogen, to arrive. Because Goldie has a terrible dark secret she's been keeping and she is more in need of the comfort than ever.   But Goldie's not the only person at camp who has been lying. When a teen turns up dead in the lake late one night, she knows that the death couldn't have been an accident. She also knows that Ava was at the lake that same night.   What did Ava see and what does she know? Why hasn't she said anything to Goldie about the death? Worse--what did Ava do?   But asking questions offers no answers, only broken bonds of lifelong friendship, with hidden danger and betrayals deeper than Goldie ever imagined.… (mere)

A solid 3 star YA thriller. The second 3 star review that I've given to this books' author, so I probably won't read anything else by her unless it sounds absolutely amazing.

Just an overall OK book. Nothing that stands out either for good or bad. ( )

This one missed the mark for me. I've read Jessica Goodman before and enjoyed other books by her, but this one not so much. I think I was expecting or thinking I was going to get something different with a more amateur detective-type story and more mystery.
It was about these 3 girls that are like 3 sisters who have always been or gone to summer camp together and having Goldie's ex-boyfriend show up dead that summer by the lake. Goldie reflects on the past with her ex and at the summer camp. She also reflects on her relationships with her two best friends and how things have or are changing. After her ex-boyfriend shows up dead, she starts to do some searching and snooping around a bit to find out what happened, who killed her ex-bf, and why. The sister friendship with Goldie and her friends is a strong one that plays into the story as well, but like I said I was expecting and looking for more than I got out of this story. If you like Jessica Goodman, summer camp stories, light, and easy not too much mystery or anything then this could be something you'd enjoy reading. It just wasn't for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Penguin Young Readers Group, and Razorbill for letting me read and review this story. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ( )

This was my first book I’ve read by Jessica Goodman AND possibly one of the very few young adult books I felt drawn into reading. (I was reading Stephen King at 10 and skipped the YA phase in my reading journey).

I always longed to go away to summer camp and I felt this book represented camp life like I would’ve loved it to be.

Since they were 8, Goldie, Ava and Imogen met at summer camp each year and were BFFS. This year they will meet again only as first time Camp Counselors.

Goldie, lives in Alpine Lake and is only able to attend camp because her mom works at the camp. Her friends live swanky lives in NY and things have been changing for them as they have become older. They are keeping secrets from each other and now a body has been found in the lake. One of their secrets might be the result of the dangers that lurk at camp.

Awesome summer camp read and even though it’s a YA book, I loved how a blue collar crime was involved in the mystery.

I consumed it in a day and found it to be a fun and fast read. Even with the whiny teenagers. ( )

I had seen this book being talked about last year and wanted to read it despite the fact that I hardly read young adult books anymore. For a YA book, I do have to say that this was not a bad book. For the most part I could deal with the characters.

I was pulled in and intrigued by the mystery surrounding Goldie and her former boyfriend. That is what kept me reading this book. Although, this book kind of suffered from going a bit darker. Thus, the reason I don't read most YA books anymore as I want the stories to go all the way and they only go about 50 to seventy five percent. The ending was the letdown for me. I was hoping there was something more sinister to the mystery. Overall, though I still did like this book, and it was a fast read for me. ( )

heavy nostalgia for sleepaway camps, which I never went to, but a very interesting twist with the impact of the camp on the town. ( )
