"Michael Brooks takes on the new 'Intellectual Dark Web.' As the host of The Michael Brooks Show and co-host of the Majority Report, Brooks was a progressive fighter whose work brought people together from around the world. In this, his first book, he lets his understanding of the digital media environment direct his analysis of the "conservative rebels" who had taken YouTube by storm in 2018. Brooks provides a theoretically rigorous but accessible critique of the most prominent "renegades" including Sam Harris, Jordan Peterson, and Brett Weinstein while also examining the social, political and media environment that such rebels thrive in"--Back cover.… (mere)

Obviously, as a fan of the Majority Report, I'm saddened of his passing. It was tough to get an in depth understanding of international politics, foreign policy, the right wing assault on America's values and people, and also amazing impersonations. But luckily, before his very untimely death, we were given this book. He doesn't take much time out to go into the horrendous thoughts of Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris, and Ben Shapiro. And in many ways you don't have to as the juvenile philosophy and paranoid psyches of those people don't take much to delve into.

I wish it were a little longer as it would've been great for him to dunk on Dave Rubin (an admittedly easy target), Joe Rogan, and Bari Weiss. But still, it's fantastic, and ends with an optimistically hopeful idea on how socialism, humanism, and an understanding of spirituality that isn't based in fear can be a solution.

Highly recommended. ( )
