America is hopelessly divided, but more worryingly, the ideas and "mystic chords of memory" that rest at the cornerstone of our civilization and bind the generations are being severed, attacked, and forgotten. The left has set out to shatter these bonds with a war on American history--the fundamental concepts, institutions, and icons that make our country what it is. And we have failed to protect our history, allowing Hollywood, educators, and the media to rewrite the story of America. We have ignored the invaluable lessons of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. A decent recapitulation of the leftist war on American history and a riposte to their ideas. Leftists sometimes say they just want to teach the bad parts of American history, as if conservatives do not mention the bad parts. But, instead, leftist thought maintains that because there were bad things in American history, then America's foundations are bad, thus America is bad and to fix it you must create a new America. The fixes generally are Marxist: either Marxian-influenced race and gender theories and/or socialism/communism. Pre 2020 book, but still relevant. Not very deep in thought or research, it is for a wide public audience, not a graduate school historian. The thesis, though, can be found among actual, conservative historians, ones who don't hate America and think, despite its faults, that it is still "the last best hope of earth." Conservative historians in the academy, however, are a rare minority. Anyway... ( )
