The ending was rushed. the pacing wasnt smooth, one of the characters changed COMPLETELY in the ending chapters. THE EPILOGUE WAS SHIT, it was unnecessary, treated the MC like a child dating and old person(pervy), suddenly threw in pregnancy even tho ITS A LESBIAN COUPLE. ( ) Uh, I think this was better as a fanfic... but I honestly can't remember. I didn't remember it getting so dark or Mir being sooooo unlikable in the latter half of the book. I'd wish I has stopped right in the middle of the first series of sex scenes, it was GOOD up to that point. The plotline took an abrupt left turn right after that and went way dark. The eating disorder/mental health drop was rough to listen to. Mir went from semi likable to one I outright hated, I really, really don't understand Mir's justification of going so hard and needing to be so brutal. Like the reasoning doesn't make sense because it comes off as brutality for the sake of brutality. Sweet baby Jesus. I'm late to the party, but I finally devoured the infamous "The Lily and the Crown". And, wow. Honestly, I put this book off for a long time because I saw it was science fiction. But in the end, that only played a minor role. It's primarily about the two main characters and their different lives. First, there is a significant age difference between the two main characters. Which I personally found just acceptable. Considering it's science fiction, and the author set the story in space. So, who are these two? The main character, from whose point of view the story is told, is Ari Geiker. She is about 20 years old and is a botanist. The lovely Ari lives a secluded life, but everything changes when she gets a slave. She gives her the name "assistant" and treats her not like a subordinate but like a flatmate. The "assistant" is on the level of an ice queen and keeps that role until the end of the book. (Yay for me!) She never revealed her exact age, but from the plot, one can infer that she is well over 40. And although both are very complimentary, the author made the two of them work. For me, Ari and the "assistant" are the epitome of "complementing each other". Second, I honestly didn't know it was... well... THAT steamy. Phew. The author managed not to get repetitive, though. I loved this book! The ending was excellent and gave the characters a good closure. Of course, the story also had a twist, but you can guess it pretty early on if you pay attention. ___ Check out my blog www.wordsandfiction.com to find more reviews. Just. So. Good. What took me so long? I bought this book some time ago, after enjoying Roslyn Sinclair's "The X Ingredient". But the cover didn't grab me and nor did the blurb so it sat on my kindle until this week. And wow! Somehow this book is both a gorgeous "Disney Princess"-style story (in space!) and a steamy "age gap" romance with D/s elements. I was captivated from the first chapter, and while it was fairly clear from the outset precisely where the story was going, that didn't stop it being a joy to experience. Very, very recommended. This will be one of my top reads of the year. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
Ariana "Ari" Geiker lives an isolated life on an imperial space station commanded by her father. The skilled, young botanist rarely leaves her living quarters, where she maintains an elaborate garden. When an imperious older woman is captured from a pirate ship and given to her as a slave, Ariana's perfectly ordered life is thrown into chaos. Her nameless slave is watchful, intelligent, dangerous, and sexy, and seems to know an awful lot about tactics, star charts, and the dread, marauding pirate queen, Mir. What happens when the slave also reveals an expertise in seduction to her innocent mistress?"The Lily and the Crown" is a lesbian romance about daring to risk your heart with someone you shouldn't.
