Olivia Bennett is on the tenure track at Cornell University, the resident expert on Southern women writers. After moving to upstate New York from Atlanta, she falls in love with and purchases an old, run-down farmhouse. The only catch: she know s nothing about renovating a house, taking care of land, or snow . Joss Bauer is a New York native who grew up in her family's construction business. She has a soft spot for old houses, but no patience for overpaid debutantes who want to play at country living. W hen Olivia hires Joss to do the renovations on her new home, the sparks fly, in more ways than one. It turns out both women have a lot to learn about life, love, and the meaning of home. But when a scandal threatens Olivia's professional reputation, it puts her priorities and her new found love on the line. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |

She hires the same company, a family company, that did her inspection, and it's Joss who winds up doing most of the work on the house (with a bit of help from her brother Ben). They clashed while Joss was doing the inspection and so neither knows exactly what to expect, since Olivia also wants to be there for some of the work on the house and do some things herself.
But, it is a romance novel, and so they slowly but surely work things out, although not in the most straightforward way they could. (If it had been straightforward the book would have been boring.)
I liked most of the characters, Ben and Olivia's two friends were very cool. Olivia and Joss were very unique and jumped from the page at me. The only small problem I had with the narrative was what I thought of as the 'beat up on Olivia' sort of feeling I sometimes got. On occasion it felt like 'hey, Olivia's horrible in every way let's make her apologize for everything from global warming to the extinction of the dinosaurs'. It wasn't in every scene or every chapter, but here and there I sort of had to move the book away and grumble how some of the fights in it were a two way street being treated a little like a one way one.
I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. ( )
