Eleanor and Daniel nailed the witty repartee and I enjoyed watching them race around town and fall in love. Unfortunately, things fell apart in the last third of the book. The solving of the underlying situation that brought the couple together was dispatched in a way that told me the author did not know what to do with it -- there was no buildup really, and I remain baffled as to why the character named Catherine was even included. Also, the scene that precipitated the expected 3rd act hurdle was silly and not in keeping with anything before. This also suffered from selective stupidity. Our MMC figures out where to locate people with some Columbo-level preternatural internal radar, but when the FMC goes into hiding it never occurs to him to go check the most obvious place, her best friend's lodgings, despite having found her here many times before. The two leads and their wacky adventures were enough to make this generally enjoyable, but the story construction wasn't good, and the reader of the audiobook could not have been flatter in her delivery if she had been an actual robot. This is a true 3 star. Enjoyable enough, I don't regret reading it, but I am not for a moment lamenting that it is over. ( ) 3.5 stars rounded up. There were some times when I might have leaned toward 5 stars, and then others that were at best a 3. Though I loved the basic premise of Forever Your Earl, the execution left me unmoved. Both Eleanor and Daniel were enjoyable characters (she the editor of a gossip rag, he the paper's most popular subject) but the situation they found themselves in was just too contrived for my taste. It was never at all clear why Daniel felt having a reporter along for the ride on his wild escapades would bring less attention than when he set out alone? Nothing about that makes any sense. The book was an OK read but one I had to keep chiding myself to continue. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

Eleanor Hawke loves a good scandal. And readers of her successful gossip rag live for the exploits of her favorite subject: Daniel Balfour, the notorious Earl of Ashford. So when the earl himself marches into her office and invites her to experience his illicit pursuits firsthand, Eleanor is stunned. Gambling hells, phaeton races, masquerades. What more could a scandal writer want than a secret look into the life of this devilishly handsome rake? Daniel has secrets, and if 'The Hawk's Eye' gets wind of them, a man's life could be at stake. And what better way to distract a gossip than by feeding her the scandal she desperately craves? But Daniel never expected the sharp mind and biting wit of the beautiful writer, and their desire for each other threatens even his best-laid plans. Ingen biblioteksbeskrivelser fundet. |
