"Praying Wisdom" is a tool to help leaders receive biblical guidance for the daily decisions they have to make. Focusing on the Old Testament books of Job through Song of Solomon, author John Chandler leads us to read a single chapter, focus on a key verse or two, and then reflect on the leadership heart of this Scripture that guides decision-making. Illustrator Jessica Luttrull artfully captures the heart of these devotionals in a simple pen-and-ink drawing that can be sketched by anyone on the back of the napkin. The premise of the book is that we truly receive biblical guidance and exercise biblical leadership when we are able to illustrate concisely and visually to another person. You don’t have to be a scholar and you don’t have to be an artist; you simply have to learn to listen to the Bible, hone in on a word, phrase, concept, action, or sentence from the chapter, and communicate that simply with another person. Hearing the Bible for personal guidance is one thing; biblical leadership happens when we transfer what we have heard to someone else. With a Foreword by Mike Breen and Alan Hirsch, these “mature, adult-type reflections” go far beyond “fluff” devotionals. The reflections are academically sound, theologically informed, biblically grounded, and conversant with the best in leadership theory. Yet the devotions are not obscure or hard to understand. Chandler’s work has been endorsed by university presidents, corporate trainers, prominent pastors, and global leaders. At the same time, these words are clear enough to be accessible to ordinary Christians who want to know and do the will of God in the family, workplace, and community (as well as the church). It is for experienced leaders who exercise great influence, and for ordinary people who have to make daily decisions that impact other lives.… (mere)
