Finally finished Undead and Unsure by MaryJanice Davidson★....I'd give it less if I could! Horrible horrible. Scattered vague plot....actually not really a plot but more of a day in the life of an idiot that is Queen Betsy. Add in an author's rant about backyard chicken raising and beekeeping, insulting the entire Mormon religion and flipping around at the end to include bible scriptures in a book that neeeeeeeever should have them and you've got one irritated Christina! Not to mention she took a brooding, part time douche-canoe named Sink-lair (who I actually kind of liked) and turning him into a flower frolicking Forest Gump! AAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNDDDDDD FIIIIIIIIINALLY we get to the part where we know what the plot is....in the last TWO FREAKING CHAPTERS! A waste of time. A waste of natural resources to print it. A waste of a series that was once fun and and fresh. UGH! ( )

As always, Davidson's Undead series is funny, fast moving, a quick read - a casual romp, that I read in less than 24 hours without even trying. During half of the book, nothing much seems to happen, but yet, so much happens during this one that it's hard to write a book review without a lot of spoilers.

Betsy is her usual selfish self - I think she reaches new heights of selfishness in this one (one reason for the four star rating). She kills her sister's mother (to save her own life) but is so busy thinking of herself, she never truly apologies.

There's a whole long, tortured, constant storyline with Jessica, how's she pregnant but no one knows when she's due & she never seems to go to the doctor or care all that much, which eventually is explained. I can understand Betsy being that wrapped up in herself, but everyone else, including Doctor Zombie Mark? This is sort of explained at the end, but it's explained in such a way that it actually explains nothing.

I miss the characters the way they used to be as well - another reason for the four, and not five, star rating. Sinclair especially is a watered down version of himself. I admit, I never thought he was that great - but I don't like this mellowed, boring version of him, either.

Another thing that's bugging me is Betsy's insistence of not calling Dick by his name, and she "explains" it away by saying that she is doing it to test their friendship. What? Another thing that's "explained" by not explaining anything at all. It's just childish, selfish, stupid, and annoying to the poor reader who has to read over and over - and over again - her whining about how she refuses to call Dick by his name because in the other timeline, he was called Nick and not Dick. The Good: It has to get better. It has to get better. I just keep telling myself, the next book has to get better. There is always a chance the series could get back on track in the next book.

The Bad: These books are supposed to be light and fun, but it's gotten to the point where it's almost constant repetition. There is no fun here. The humor has dried up. Betsey is no longer charmingly inept, but rather obnoxiously incompetent and ridiculously lucky. Laura has become even more annoying that Betsey. I have absolutely loved this series for years and it pains me to say it, but wow, this book is beyond awful. Put me to sleep. An complete chore to read. ( )

Nice twists at the end! I like Betsy's gift to Sinclair and I admit that I did not look beyond the obvious aspects of it! Laura is acting like the teenager she is. So what will be the effect of giving Betsy control of Hell? And it is a bad idea to tick off Sinclair. So what about the twins? ( )

The 12th book in the series and everything is just everyone talking to each other for the most part. Betsy gets sent to Hell by her sister who is mad about the killing of Satan, making her half sister now in charge of Hell, a job she doesn't want. One mystery is solved but for the most part I'm only skimming these to see how the writer will write themselves out of the corner she painted all the characters into. ( )
