ou know if your regency-set novel opens with men and women attending a funeral that you're not in for a historically-accurate story. Stylistically not poorly written, but clunky narrative-wise, too much told rather than shown, secrets revealed too early, and too much language and ideology not of the period.

A disappointment. The hero plans vengeance on the heroine's father over a decade after the father's actions led to his mother's death. Anyway, he decides to go after the heroine to get to the father. So, he pretends to court her but, alas, has some true feelings. She (and the father) discover the plan and they become estranged. Months later, they run into each other and get together due to some predictable plot devices. On the next page, she's in love with him. I actually thought I had missed a chapter because it happened so quickly. I couldn't wait to put this book down, not really anything memorable... (
