Le Fauve d'or : prix du meilleur album est un prix décerné au Festival d'Angoulême par un jury officiel, récompensant un album de bande dessinée publié en français l'année précédente. vis mere Décerné pour la première fois en 1976, il a connu de nombreuses formules (prix unique, séparation des œuvres étrangères et françaises, séparation des œuvres réalistes et humoristiques) et dénominations (Meilleure œuvre, Alfred du meilleur album, Alph-Art du meilleur album, prix du meilleur album). Ce prix suscite souvent la polémique, car il récompense rarement un album ayant un grand succès public, particulièrement ces dernières années. Les albums qu'il a distingués ont cependant souvent été, à leur époque, remarqués par la critique1. C'est le prix le plus prestigieux après le grand prix de la ville d'Angoulême. Le prix a récompensé 65 albums (deux séries, Maus et Alack Sinner, ont reçu ce prix pour deux épisodes différents) et 73 auteurs, dont neuf l'ont reçu deux fois : José Muñoz, Carlos Sampayo, Hugo Pratt, Alan Moore, Art Spiegelman, Miguelanxo Prado, Baru, René Pétillon, Christophe Blain et Riad Sattouf. Parmi ces derniers, Muñoz, Pratt, Spiegelman, Baru et Pétillon ont par la suite obtenu le Grand Prix. vis mindre
