186. I Saw the Fall of the Philippines, by Colonel Carlos P. Romulo (read 3 Apr 1945) When I finished reading this book on Apr 3, 1945, I said: 'Finished I Saw the Fall of the Philippines by Romulo. Awful. A good book, I mean, but story awful. A person needs a stark story like that to keep one from complacency, to renew the desire for a permanent peace. I stayed up till 11:45 PM to finish the book.
