Sassy and Waldo are good dogs, who keep their house safe (from squirrels, mostly), and worry about their boy, Stewart, who always comes home from school smelling of anxiety; so the two dogs come up with a plan to help him--they will dress up in a trench coat and attend school, posing as a new student, to find out just what is bothering Stewart.… (mere)

Another book that was nominated for the Blue Hen Award. This book was a cute story, but I am going to be honest. I wasn't so much a fan of the book. It was cute and a good way to look at how school can be perceived through a dog's eyes (kind of), but the flow of the book just seemed off to me. I found myself not liking the overall prose of the story, but I can see how it might appeal to someone in 2nd or 3rd grade. As an adult, it didn't really click with me, but not every book will. ( )

children's beginning chapter book (dogs, school, humor)
I know the premise is totally silly, but I had to laugh out loud a few times while reading this book. Recommended. ( )

*I received an ARC of this from Scholastic in exchange for an honest review*

I couldn't get into this book. It sounded funny, but as an adult, I didn't think it was. I could see how children would find the ridiculousness of two dogs in a trench coat going to school and the slapstick humor funny. The plot seemed to be all over the place and was too unbelievable for me to follow with any enjoyment. A dog that can talk? How do the adults not even realize they're not humans? I'll share with my kids, but it won't be a book I pull out to recommend. ( )
