"What would you do if your neighbor was a dinosaur? Sybil knows that there is something off about her next door neighbor, but she can't seem to get anyone to believe her. Everyone is so busy going about their days in the busy streets of New York City that they don't notice Bolivar. They don't notice his odd height, his tiny arms, or his long tail. No one but Sybil sees that Bolivar is a dinosaur. When an unlikely parking ticket pulls Bolivar into an adventure from City Hall to New York's Natural History Museum, he must finally make a choice: Bolivar can continue to live unnoticed, or he can let the city see who he really is." --… (mere)

Sort of jumbo sized picture book about how little people notice, and the adventures of a reclusive urban dinosaur. Sweet, amusing, great images. ( )

(Review by Zoe, age 6) It's a very fun story. It's about a girl who thinks that there's a dinosaur who's her neighbour. She lives in a very big city so nobody can notice that it's there. In that book, dinosaurs don't like to be noticed. It's very nice. I love the pictures and I also love the story. ( )

This is probably the second graphic novel I've ever read as that format is not my favorite, even though I appreciate their importance to others. Bolivar was recommended by my library colleague and friend, and she indeed knew I'd like it. The interesting thing is that the creator of this book was also involved in the creation of the first graphic novel I read, "Mouse Guard". I loved that one for its lush art, simple panels, and fairly meager speech bubbles. I love Bolivar for the same reasons, as well as for the sweet story. In addition, Rubin includes a few pages of prose amidst the graphic panels, and this helps me follow the story more easily. Bolivar is a dinosaur who lives in New York City because he knows people won't notice him. But then a young girl does notice him, as only a child would. Bolivar tries to hide from her, but Sybil perseveres. This is a charmer. ( )

This was a great book and story! The illustrations were amazing, just saying. The story is about a dinosaur blending in NYC without anyone noticing him but a small girl. The girl follows him around trying to get a picture of him. In the end, the question is would you rather go unnoticed and be alone or have friends? Lovely all around. ( )

When he had first moved into his apartment, the landlord was much too busy to even notice he was a dinosaur.

The forms said you couldn't have any dogs or cats in the apartment. Bolivar didn't have dogs or cats, so he was allowed to live there.
Like most dinosaurs, Bolivar lived on corned beef sandwiches and tonic water, which he drank with lime.
